About the product
This intimate and serene portrait by Pablo Picasso features his beloved muse, Marie-Thérèse Walter, depicted in a moment of quiet contemplation, with her head gently resting on her hand. Painted in 1937, this work showcases Picasso’s distinctive Cubist-influenced style, where her face is rendered with his characteristic dual perspective—one eye seen frontally, the other in profile—creating a sense of both familiarity and intriguing distortion. Her features are softened, emphasizing her sensual curves and the delicate blush on her cheek. The subtle background of purple and green hues provides a gentle contrast to her luminous skin and blond hair. The ruffled collar of her dress adds a touch of classic elegance. This painting beautifully captures Marie-Thérèse’s placid and dreamlike presence, a recurring theme in Picasso’s portraits of her, reflecting his deep affection and the profound inspiration she provided during this period of his life.
